Biography
Cathie Tyler was born in
Colorado and raised in Texas. As a high
school senior in El Paso, she had not planned on attending college until two of
her teachers intervened who were alumni from Texas Woman's University in
Denton. That Fall she went to
college. She finished her BA in Art
Education at the University of North Texas as well as a Master of Fine Arts
degree in Painting and Drawing.
Cathie Tyler returned the
support she received as a high school student by teaching and mentoring students
in a wide variety of college art courses - painting, drawing, ceramics, design,
computer graphics - as well as supervising the gallery. She has been a career-long participant of the
Texas Association of Schools of Art, a state level organization that represents
two and four year, public and private college art programs, and has served
twice as President and has recently been awarded the Award for Distinguished
Service to Education.
She has recently retired
and moved to Hill Country where she is renovating an old ranch house that now
has an art studio shared with her four cats and an adopted Australian
Sheppard. Besides teaching, she loves to
work on her house, landscape her yard, and cook for friends. In her spare time, Cathie Tyler is the Gallery
Director for the Arnold Art Gallery in Mason.
