Biography
Richard Cowart was born in Houston but raised in Corpus
Christi and graduated from Mary Carroll High School. He then attended Texas
A&M University Kingsville and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in
Geology. Richard also earned MS degree from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in
environmental science and later Doctor of Education also from Texas A&M
University Corpus Christi (2008).
Dr. Cowart has a wide range of professional work experience.
He began his career as a well-site Geologist in the Gulf of Mexico and North
Sea. Then advanced to consulting
geologist in Houston. Richard also is an
Environmental Consultant for WEES Engineering in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dr. Cowart has been with CBC for the past 17
years and has taught the following: Instructor Environmental Science Technology
program Coastal Bend College 1997-1999.
Biology/Geology Professor Coastal Bend College 1999-present. Courses taught include: Biol 1408, Biol 1322,
Biol 2401, Biol 2402, Biol 2420 and Geol 1305, Geol 1403 and Geol 1404.
While outside the Dr. Cowart enjoys the outdoors by spending
time with his family on hikes, fishing and hunting outings. He also is an avid cyclist riding numerous
times a week and participating in “Conquer the Coast” ride in Corpus Christi. Dr. Cowart’s other hobbies include
rock/fossil collecting, woodworking and restoring vintage Pachinko pinball
machines.
