    Self-Sufficiency Fund 

    Infrastructure Development for Oil and Gas Industry

        

    In December 2013 Coastal Bend College (CBC) submitted a grant proposal to TWC titled Self-Sufficiency Fund – Infrastructure Development for the Oil and Gas Industry. The proposal requested funding to train 125 individuals in the areas of welding, electrical and construction. All applicants will be Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligible clients, including non-custodial parents (NCP), and will be referred to CBC by Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend.

    In February 2014, CBC was awarded $200,000 to provide this training. CBC received the contract draft documents on June 3, 2014.

    The award will provide training for 125 individuals. Specifically, 25 trainees will receive a Welding Specialist Certificate (three classes totaling 224 hours); 50 trainees will receive an Electrical Specialist Certificate (two classes totaling 80 hours); and 50 trainees will receive a Construction Specialist Certificate (two classes totaling 96 hours). All trainees will receive an additional 26 hours of safety training (first aid/CPR, PEC Basic/Safeland, & OSHA 10).

    On July 16, 2014, the Coastal Bend College Board of Trustees authorized the President to sign the contract to accept the awarad in the amount of $200,000 for the Self-Sufficiency Fund - Infrastructure Development for the Oil and Gas Industry.

    The anticipated kick off date is scheduled for August 2014.
