  • Dr. Elizabeth "Becky" Simonson

    Dr. Elizabeth “Becky” Simonson received her degree in Educational Leadership Higher Education from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, Texas.  She also received her M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction, a second Master’s in Educational Technology/Computer Science and her BBA in marketing from Texas A&M Corpus Christi.  She holds Texas lifetime certification to teach secondary math, secondary reading , secondary computer information technology;  elementary 1- 8th self-contained, and elementary 1-8th speech. She has also completed the principalship program.

    After teaching in the K-12 setting for 9 years, Dr. Simonson joined the Coastal Bend College in 1999. She runs a successful consulting firm, manages a ranch and has investment properties.  She also serves as the development director for St. Mary’s Academy.  In her capacity as Development Director and Consultant, Becky has obtained over $38 million for various schools and organizations in Texas, including funding for Coastal Bend College.

    Dr. Simonson is an expert in educational reform and innovation in Texas and has presented at several national conferences.  Early in her career Becky was featured in a national PBS documentary on mathematics instruction.  She developed and wrote 3 successful charter school applications and served as the startup superintendent for St. Mary’s Academy Charter School, Beeville, Texas, and St. Anthony’s in Dallas Texas.  She developed the S.A.I.L. Instructional Model when she created the Trinity Charter School’s program. The three-tiered reading program she helped develop at St. Mary’s was instrumental in St. Mary’s becoming the first charter school in Texas to earn the U. S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon award.

    Becky’s recent efforts have focused on reinventing the Computer Science program at Coastal Bend College.  Working with a K-16 emphasis, Becky developed an informal science program that has successfully attracted a number of students to engineering and computer science careers. SDA, SMART and ACE programming have all provided informal science programming on the CBC campus. To continue the momentum, Becky has redesigned the COSC program with a robotics component.  The K-16 initiative is currently being evaluated for a partnership with TAMU-CC for scale-up and dissemination.

    Dr. Simonson has served as president of the Coastal Bend College Faculty Senate and currently serves as the Beeville Workforce Senator.  She also serves as a state wide committee member for TCCTA (Texas Community College Teachers Association.)

    Becky loves to roam the family ranch, garden, operate machinery and play with her dachshunds, when she has time.
