    Law Enforcement


    Julian Cavazos, Jr., MJA. is the Bureau Commander overseeing Communications & Records Bureau, Criminal Investigations Bureau, Street Level Operations Team  (S.L.O.T.), along with his other duties that include Project Supervisor for Operation Border Star and S.W.A.T. Commander. His academic background includes a Master of Justice Administration from Norwich University - Vermont.  Julian received his undergraduate degree in General Business from Texas A&M University – Kingsville.  He is also a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) and the FBI LEED (Law Enforcement Executive Development). His career in law enforcement spans 29 years of service all with the Kingsville Police Department.  He has served in every division of the department from patrol officer, field training officer and coordinator, instructor, investigator, patrol and investigative supervisor and divisional commander. He has over 3000 hrs of training in patrol tactics, investigations, and tactical, general terrorism, certified Hazmat Tech, NIMS, management and supervision as well as advanced Incident Command Training and continual leadership training. 

    Academic Education 

    Julian Cavazos  is a Texas A&M Kingsville University graduate where he obtained a B.A.A.S degree then returned and obtained a Bachelor in Business Administration.  Two years later he returned to the classroom where he obtained a Masters in Criminal Justice Administration from Norwich University, Vermont Law Enforcement Education.  Julian has over 3000 training hours in law enforcement .  He graduated from the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Institute of Texas and has continued this education through the Management series provided by the Institute. Julian then continued his education in management with the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development series.   


    Prior to joining the police department Julian served in the United States Marine Corps.  Julian is currently employed by the City of Kingsville, Police Department as Bureau Commander, 2nd in command of the department.  He has 30 years of service.  He worked his way up the ranks.  He has worked in most every department and or division during his tenure with the police department.  He currently oversees the department's Investigative Division, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.) and Street Level Operations Team (S.L.O.T.).   Julian is also tasked with writing grants for the department and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the departments, which means ensuring that the departments and groups stay within budget. 


    Reading, spending time with the grandkids, martial arts, dancing.  He is the past president of the Kingsville Law Enforcement Association  and still member.  Current Vice President of the Blue Knights Motorcycle club Chapter 36, Kingsville, Texas.
