•  In today’s society, computers are a way of life, and venturing into the world of computers can be an intimidating for new users.  Coastal Bend College Continuing Education Department offers the most common computer applications.  Each computer course highlights the most commonly used functions of various Office programs and serves as a convenient starting point for individuals who enjoy a fast-paced and “hands-on” learning environment. 

    Introduction to Computers  ITSC 1022 ($46.00)     8 Contact Hours CEU’s 0.8 

    Computer systems and their uses in today's business communities. In this course students will be introduced to Computers and the distinct vocabulary.  Keyboarding, posture, home keys, and finger positions will also be practiced.  Computer vocabulary will be practiced on with pop quizzes every meeting. Students will familiarize themselves with computer types, language, operating systems, hardware, software types, input and output devices, and a project on shopping for a computer based on the kind of need and use.  Students will access the Microsoft Office for an overview of saving, copying, and retrieving files.  Another objective will be to send and receive E-mails, and creating an E-mail account.  On the first day of class students will take a quiz to measure prior computer knowledge. 

    Introduction to Word 2013  POFI 1024 ($46)    12 Contact Hours CEU’s 1.2 

    In this course students will be introduced to Word’s drop-down menus from The Ribbon. Learn to navigate the Ribbon interface with the many features which can also be customized. Students will also learn how to construct a Resume which will be the final for the class. This course will also prep the students with written communications skills and the 6 rules which will prepare the students for continued college courses and for the career environment. 

    Introduction to Outlook 2013  ITSC 1004 ($46)  8 Contact Hours CEU’s 0.8 

    In this course students will be introduced to Microsoft Power Point which will prepare them to present Presentations for work and other courses.  Students will also be introduced to Microsoft Outlook for future employment. Students will learn to navigate the Ribbon which is similar to Word and Excel.  In Power Point Creativity is key, for adding text, pictures, videos, and music to slide presentations. In Outlook, Contacts, emails, note reminders, and a monthly planner will help them stay organized. 

    Introduction to Excel 2013  ITSW 1021 ($46) 12 Contact Hours CEU’s 1.2 

    In this course students will be introduced to Microsoft Excel’s drop-down Ribbon menus. They will also learn to navigate and customize the Ribbon that is similar to Microsoft Word. Students will learn basic formulas for adding, subtracting, and averages.  And also construct small tables that will also prep the students for organizing information and manipulate rows, columns, and cells. Students will also create a workbook, save and rename sheets, edit, and retrieve, workbooks saved in their USB. 

    Intermediate Word 2013  POFI 2025 ($58) 16 Contact Hours CEU’s 1.6 

    This course is a continuation of Intro to Word. 

    In this course students will learn Business Correspondence using Word.  Formal full block style, Semi-block style, Friendly letter, and Memos.  Typing skills practice is continued from Introduction to Computers and Introduction to Microsoft Office 2010. There will be 3 rough drafts from each letter format. Grammar will be key to grading. 

    Intro to PowerPoint 2013  COMG 1002 ($46) 8 Contact Hours CEU’s 0.8

    This course is a continuation of Intro to Excel.  In this course students will learn to use Excel formulas to create simple business works:  Balance sheets, Expense sheets, Income sheets, time sheet, and payroll sheets using Excel. 

    Introduction to Quickbooks  ACNT 1010 ($58)  16 Contact Hours CEU’s 1.6 

     An introductory course of the QuickBooks Pro accounting software, including setting up a new company and chart of accounts; recording transactions with customers, vendors and employees; managing lists; running reports and customizing them; changing forms and generating letters.
