Joel Schmit attended Northern Arizona University and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in philosophy at Texas Tech University in 2007. Upon receiving his degree, he taught as an adjunct philosophy instructor for three years at several community colleges in central Texas. He joined the faculty of Coastal Bend College in 2010 as a full-time philosophy instructor. 

    Mr. Schmit’s interests in philosophy range from the classical Greek philosophy of Plato and Aristotle to the contemporary analytic philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and O.K. Bouwsma. He is particularly interested in the existentialists, with their emphasis on the individual human being as the necessary starting point for any worthwhile philosophical investigation. Mr. Schmit also raises goats.
