• Biography

    During her extensive career in higher education, Dr. Matilda Saenz has worked for student success.   Her primary aim in her daily work at the colleges she has served and to her community service contributions has been focused in helping students learn and succeed. Although her parents always instilled a love of learning, Dr. Saenz has increasingly recognized that her South Texas community environment was an “at risk,” first generation college-bound, and with very limited educational resources.     

    Dr. Saenz received her undergraduate degree in English and French from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio and a Master of Arts degree in English from Texas A&I University-Kingsville.  Dr. Saenz was awarded a Ph.D. in English with a Concentration in Rhetoric from Texas Woman’s University in Denton.  Her previous employment includes full-time teaching at University of North Texas, North Lake College and Texas A&M University-Kingsville.  Dr. Saenz‘s administrative experience includes Faculty Association President at North Lake College in Irving; Dean of Language and Literature at Eastfield College in Dallas; and Vice President of Instruction/Chief Academic Officer at Mountain View College also in Dallas.     

    Dr. Saenz recently served as District Director for State Representative Abel Herrero with offices in Corpus Christi.  She has enjoyed helping constituents and participating in the State legislative process. As much as time permits, she enjoys visiting with her daughter in Austin, an attorney in legislative /governmental law and her son in Baltimore, a music teacher in an inner city school and a university jazz band director.
