Creating a T.R.A.I.L. (Teaching, Retention, Advocacy, Innovation, Learning) to Success (P031A220197)

Through the resources provided by the Title III grant, Coastal Bend College is implementing evidence based best practices that are specifically designed to improve online learning through course transformations delivered using the Quality Matters framework and enhancing student success through improved pathways orientation and advising, career exploration, and increased access to tutoring resources. The TRAIL grant is investing in technology resources that will enhance course content through the creation of a Digital Media Laboratory. The lab will include green screens, state of the art recording and editing technology, and high-definition cameras and microphones. Faculty will engage in course transformations and will have access to the laboratory to improve instruction and increase student engagement in online classes. The laboratory and course transformations are being led by a Digital Media Specialist, Dr. Aurelia Rocha, and an Instructional Designer, Mrs. Luz Miranda. Students at CBC will benefit from a redesigned onboarding process that includes intentional orientation activities and advising to help them identify the most efficient pathway to accomplish their transfer and/or career goals. Advising and academic support at CBC will employ the highest standards, best practices, and latest technology resources to enhance communication with students to improve persistence, retention, and completion rates at CBC. The grant will also offer supplemental instructional support through a writing/math center located in each campus’ library and invest in technology that will allow virtual job shadowing to increase student confidence in the pathway they choose. A pathway coordinator will be hired to lead these transformational efforts.
