• Yolanda Mendez, Director of the Coastal Bend College (CBC) Childcare Center, comes to CBC with 35 plus years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Development. She served as the Education Coordinator for the Head Start Program for over 30 years. Having served the Head Start Program in many capacities, ranging from Teacher to Transition Coordinator-transitioning the children to the School Districts. She implemented and evaluated the programs components. Overseeing twenty-three classrooms she fulfilled the needs of staff, children, and parents. She has taught childhood development courses at Coastal Bend College since1996. She has served on the Coastal Bend College Child Development Committee and chaired the committee.

    She earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Childhood Development and the Advanced Skill Mastery Management Certificate in Childhood Development from Bee County College. She earned a Bilingual National Reporting System Certification from the Administration for Children and Families-U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She then earned her Director of Qualification Certificate for Daycare Centers from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Child-Care Licensing Division.

    Yolanda Mendez is committed to continuing to make the Coast Bend College Child Development Center a center of excellence. Under her direction the CBC Child Development Center has attained a 3-star center rating under Texas Rising Star Certification Program which means the center meets high standards according to State of Texas’ Minimum Licensing Standards for child care facilities. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and most of all her grandchildren.
