The Welding Technology program at Coastal Bend College is designed to equip you with the comprehensive skills required for employment in a variety of industries that demand expertise in cutting and welding.
Our curriculum focuses on mastering techniques in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Oxy-Acetylene Welding (OAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). These skills are crucial for the fabrication and construction of vessels and structures, as well as their ongoing maintenance and repair. We emphasize practical experience, offering you hands-on training in real-world scenarios.
Additionally, our program includes related courses in shop math, welding theory, drafting and layout, plate and pipe fabrication, and the properties of various metals. This holistic approach ensures you are well-prepared to meet the diverse requirements of the welding industry.
Our Welding Technology program is also an articulated high school credit program, allowing students who have successfully completed relevant welding courses in high school to receive college credit for those courses. This provides a seamless transition from high school to higher education and the workforce.
To earn the Associate of Applied Science Degree or a Level I or Level II Certificate in welding, students must complete the required curriculum and pass the program's capstone project. By graduating from our program, you will be well-prepared to embark on a rewarding career in welding, with opportunities for growth and advancement in various industrial settings.
