Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Coastal Bend College
Partner to Enhance Education and Opportunities for TDCJ Employees

BEEVILLE, TX - The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and Coastal Bend College (CBC) announced an exciting new partnership designed to provide TDCJ employees with access to affordable, high-quality academic and career advancement opportunities.

"This partnership represents an exciting opportunity for our dedicated employees," TDCJ Executive Director Bryan Collier said. "By providing access to affordable education and career advancement resources, we are not only investing in their personal growth but also strengthening our workforce and ultimately enhancing the safety and security of our state."

Under this partnership, TDCJ employees will benefit from several key offerings. First, regardless of their physical location, TDCJ employees will be considered in-district students at CBC, enabling them to enjoy the lowest possible tuition rate of only $75 per credit hour. This represents a significant cost-saving compared to out-of-district rates. Additionally, CBC has designed a specialized academic pathway exclusively for TDCJ employees, ensuring relevant course offerings and flexible scheduling to accommodate their work commitments. This tailored academic journey will enable TDCJ employees to balance their professional responsibilities with their educational pursuits.

In addition to academic support, TDCJ employees will have access to comprehensive college services provided by CBC. These services include college advising, library resources, tutoring, and transfer assistance, all of which will facilitate a smooth academic journey for TDCJ employees.

TDCJ employees can also earn up to 14 college credit hours for a one-time fee of $75. Furthermore, TDCJ employees attending regional training academies will earn Continuing Education (CE) hours and awards at no cost. Upon successful completion of specific trainings, TDCJ employees will also receive occupational skills awards, which will be listed on their transcripts and serve as a steppingstone towards future academic pursuits.

"This is an excellent example of the possibilities that can be created when two institutions are dedicated to providing opportunities for professional development, deeper understanding of responsibilities, and commitment to people who have a career in a difficult but necessary position in our society,” Justin Hoggard, President at Coastal Bend College said.
