Patient Care Technician Program Information
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) program at Coastal Bend College prepares students for careers in direct patient care by providing hands-on training in essential healthcare skills. PCTs assist nurses and medical staff in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and home healthcare settings.
Skills Learned:
- Basic nursing care (vital signs, patient hygiene, mobility assistance)
- Phlebotomy (blood draws) and EKG (electrocardiogram) procedures
- Electrocardiography
- Wound care and catheterization
- Patient safety and infection control
- Medical terminology and electronic health records
