Coastal Bend College is a comprehensive, public community college serving a diverse South Texas area. It is a student-centered institution committed to the highest integrity and to the development of an educational culture that supports creativity, encourages professional development, and promotes excellence in all areas. Coastal Bend College serves over 3,500 students at four campuses covering a rural community of some 9,000 square miles. It is also one of the region's most significant economic contributors.

Coastal Bend College is a leader in providing quality education for life-long learning by dedicating its resources to promoting a learning-centered environment that empowers its students to attain their highest potential and become responsible members of the global community.

The President of Coastal Bend College will be a capable, visionary, approachable student-centered leader who will work decisively to enhance and expand the vital academic and continuing education role that Coastal Bend College plays in its community and address the following Challenges and Opportunities: 

1. To identify and seize opportunities to maintain high quality affordable academic and continuing education in a Hispanic-serving institution that serves a diverse population in a region of high economic growth.

2. To develop a consortium of efforts with other South Texas community colleges to create workforce education programs that will allow students to take advantage of the high paying jobs that are emerging during the current oil and gas boom.

3. To support the College’s current reaccreditation process, now in the initial stages, through the Southern Association and see the College successfully through to an affirmed accreditation.

4. To foster existing relationships and develop new relationships with county and state political leaders, community leaders and business leaders to support and invest in meeting the needs of the workforce and the students who aspire to join the workforce.

Coastal Bend College seeks an energetic and thoughtful higher education leader who embraces the community college mission and is: 

1. An effective advocate for the College who will be active and involved in the many communities that Coastal Bend College serves and who shall recognize and support the unique cultures and contributions of the four campuses and many diverse programs that serve a wide variety of student needs.

2. An educational partner with a demonstrated commitment to student success who will build strong relationships with K-12 and the business communities to prepare students to compete effectively in a rapidly expanding job market.

3. A seasoned educator who will build on the existing early-stage grant-funded programs to foster dual enrollment at area high schools and CBC.

4. A confident, engaging leader who will work effectively with the elected Board of Trustees to advance the mission of Coastal Bend College in the service and support of students.

5. A fiscal steward with experience in financial management, strategic planning and the management of large and complex budgets who can master the challenges of the funding system in Texas and, particularly, of community colleges in South Texas.

6. An astute spokesperson and fundraiser with significant experience in supporting a foundation.

7. A seasoned manager who is also a strong recruiter and can maintain and support a highly skilled college workforce and who is committed to employee professional development.

8. A technologically savvy individual who is experienced with distance learning and technological infrastructure and will bring the College’s resources to a widely scatteredstudent base.

9. An ambassador to the community who will work with businesses to serve their education and training needs and prepare students to succeed in the work force.

10. An advocate who understands and supports the cultural role that the College plays in the community.

11. A collaborative, energetic and effective communicator who welcomes and encourages differing points of view. A team builder who will work with the Board to develop a consistent and reliable model of governance.

Preferred Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university.

2. Classroom teaching experience along with community college experience and a demonstrated track record of success at a senior administrative level.

3. Demonstrated successful experience with budget management.
